A biography of the late Iman Khomeini - a leading scholar of the Shi'i, an author, a profound Islamic leader and reformer. He is responsible for the establishment of the new Islamic government and replaced the last Iranian Monarchy, the Pahlavi. The following snapshot was taken from the appendix to explain why.

One fine afternoon, a friend asked what I do. I replied - reading the biography of Farah Pahlavi, the exile Queen of the late King of Iran. Oh the free-hair princess of the so called islamic country, she asked. I returned a short reply - is here new?
Farah Diba was born in an upper-class family in Tehran and was the only child. Her father died when she was young, and later lived and brought up by close relative family. She studied architecture in Paris and met the King of Iran, Mohamad Reza Pahlavi during a university visit.
She was 21 years old when married the king whom previous marriage was without an heir. The marriage was blessed with 4 children, the eldest son the crown Prince Reza, Princess Farahnaz, Prince Ali-Reza and Princess Leila. Later at the end of the chapter, Princess Leila the youngest daughter was found dead in her bedroom due to over-dosed tranquilizers. 10 years later, Ali-Reza has committed suicide after a long depression, and feel ill-fated to be exiled and away from own country, besides losing his close sister, Princess Leila.
The king has introduced new policies to modernize (and turned secular) Iran, but has conflicted with the traditional and islamic values. 1979, the Iran revolution lead by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini has successfully overthrown the Pahlavi dynasty and put the imperial family into events of exile to Panama, Mexico and Egypt. Due to political reasons (and arrest and death threats) no country but Egypt has offered the imperial family a permenant stay. President Anwar Sadat has also given the best attention to the king's health, who at the time, was diagnosed with deteriorating cancer. The king was dead in 1980, and President Anuar sadat has granted asylum to the King's family. Sadly, in 1981, President Anwar Sadat was assinated.
Farah is now residing in the United States.

Leonardo da Vinci who painted the famous Mona Lisa was born in Italy on April 15 1452. Those who knew metaphysic, please do some calculation and you ll be surprise how almost true, the personality of the number 4 he is in ( and the VIP number he has with him)
Leonardo was born as an illegitimate child. Some claimed her mother was a family servant (or maid) and had secret romance with his father, whose job as a legal notary job was running in the family. He was brought up by the family of his father and was particularly close with an uncle who own a farm. He spent a lot of time there, and learnt to appreciate the beauty of landscapes, and had them either sketched or painted. Her mother left him, and had family of her own. His father maried several times, and produced him siblings.
Leonardo never really attended school and was informally taught to read and write at his father's house. In later years he did paiting for the popes, dukes, and kings. Known mainly for his painting, he was also a sculptor, a mathematician, an inventor, a cartographer, a scientist, a musician, a philosopher, a writer, and above all, an influential and intellectual human being. A multy-talented, he is one of the greatest minds of all time.

Several facts about Leonardo that interst me:
- Leonardo developed a backwards writing code, to keep his ideas secret.
- Da Vinci is said to have left many of his paintings incomplete. Reportedly, he also destroyed a number of his own works.
- He was left-handed and always wrote in mirror handwriting, perhaps to guard his ideas from intellectual thieves.
- Leonardo never married, or have romantic relationship with anybody. But he has good appreciation to good looking man and and turned them into good friends.

Louis Fisher is a Jewish-American born in 1896. A school teacher, turned a British Army volunteer, and made a career as a journalist with interest in world's politics and figures of the era
The book
A soft-cover with 626 pages, excluding sources and bibliography and indexing - a great help to recall the numerous names and subjects in between of reading.
The book is divided into 3 parts - Part one, "The End and The Beginning" detailed out the lineage of Gandhi, early days in school, years to graduate law in London, his early years of being an "utterless" lawyer, his 21 years tenure in the South Africa, leading the Civil Rights movement to abolish racism, prejudice and injustice against Indians in the South Africa, years of being away from home and family, and nurtured as a social activist.
Part two " Gandhi in India" were series of Civil right movement after returning home, to abolish the Hindu multi-caste divides and unite the multi-religions people, to strike agaist the highly imposed tax and the monopoly by British on salt and textiles, and the beginning to acquire independence for India. All actions were in a form of the so-called Non-Cooperation - an act of non-violence and peaceful resistances. It is intersting to learn how a simple boycott on British related products (school, law firm, employments), and making home-made salt and spinned-fabrics did give big impact to the monopolized British economy, that send Gandhi and friends, many times into prisons.
The final part, The Birth of Two Nations, gathers around series of violence and killing events between the HIndu and Muslim that led to the the partition of India and the creation a country for the muslim called the Pakistan, before the independence of India was sought. It is interesting to learn that Gandhi, who resisted the creation of Pakistan from the beginning (for he believe in unity instead), was assinated for being "responsible in favouring Pakistan"- he was assinated for favoring the compensation of amount 550,000,000 rupess to Pakistan, besides his doctorine of the non-violence.

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born in 1869. His is from Vaisya caste origins, the third caste in Hindu society. His father inherited a high officer post from his grandfather and greatgrandfather, in a small a state called Porbandar. At age of 13-year-old Mohandas married to 13-year-old Kasturbai Makhanji and had four sons: Harilal, Manilal, Ramdas, and Devdas.
Of all the four, Harilal the eldest has a significant story. He was a feel-neglected son since child, whose dream to study in England but was opposed by own father who believed, - receiving life-training is a lot more important than an formal education that Hiralal was currently in the right track (taking care of the mother and broters in India, while Gandhi was in South Africa). He openly rebelling his own father by converting to Islam. He was said to appear in derelict condition at his father's funeral, that few had recognized him.

Gandhi was greatly inspired by the Bhagavad Gita - a part of Mahabbrata, the greatest Indian epic and the world's longest poem which contains fables, philosophical dissertations and theological discussions.The Gita's emphasis on selfless service. Gandhi once said
"When doubts haunt me, when disappointments stare me in the face, and I see not one ray of hope on the horizon, I turn to Bhagavad-Gita and find a verse to comfort me; and I immediately begin to smile in the midst of overwhelming sorrow. My life has been full of external tragedies and if they have not left any visible or invisible effect on me, I owe it to the teaching of the Bhagavad Gita."
Gandhi was a complete failure a lawyer in Rajkot and Bombay:
"He could not utter a word during a petty case in court

" preached the dignity of manual labour, urge the simple life, and stressed the debilitating complexities of the modern economic system"
Gandhi read and learn all relions
"He reads the Gita in the morning and Koran in English translation at noon. He used the bible to teach English to Christian Chinese fellow prisoner. He reads Ruskin, Socrates, Tolstry, HUxley, Bacon's essay and Carlyle's Lives. He was happy. Be believed whoever has a good taste for reading good books is able to bear loneliness in any place with great ease."

"He had seventy five compatriots with him in jail, and he become their cook."
Trials:
" On 14 Nov, when Gandhi was brought to trial, Kallenbach and Polak testified against him. Twenty four hours later, Gandhi appeared as a witness agaisnst Kallenbach, and two days after that, Gandhi and Kallenbach testified against Polak."
He loves the people:
"A foreighner was once said to Gandhi " How is your family/ and " he replied, "all of India is my family"
Gandhi was besieged by people who demanded a view of Mahatma, during his tour by train:

A deeply touched reading, and among the book I re-read once finished. I will do the review soon.
Sold for a silver - Janet Lim an Autobiography
Another biography reading, Sold for Silver, is the true story of a China-born Janet Lim who lived in hardship and poverty, then was sold at tender age by her parents for slavery in 1930s.
The few early chapters described the days when she was in China, lives in poverty but happily with her parents and a brother. She was only eight, when was sold and shipped to Singapore, then bought to serve a rich merchant family- as a maid and having to nightly escape (and hide) from the sexual abuse master.
Years later, she joined a missionary school, then was serving a missionary hospital as a nurse when Japanese arrived and attacked Singapore 1942. She joined to escape on a missionary ship, butwas bombed and sink, but she floated and rescued alive. She was captured by the Japanese armies, become the pool of comfort-woman (sexual-imprisonment), but again escape and survived.
An inspirational autobiography of a true heroine and a survival. Unfortunately, the few last pages was missing and I cant give a good guess, what was the end. (I told the librarian to pull off this book off the shelf when I return it)

Book from the National library.Apart being famously beautiful, married and end-up living a 'sloppy' monarchy life (and husband), Grace Kelly and Princess Diana share the same mystery; both were said to be killed in well-planned murder, a car-accident. I borrowed this book to get some answers to that, but the writing is more of about the career and the love paths and nothing much on the plot.
Like Diana, Grace also grew her childhood's life unhappily. Her father adore his Olympic-champion brother more than anyone else, Grace grew the 'need-of-attention' personality in her throughout her life. when she was introduced to the hollywood by a close uncle, she had all the attentions and love she need but perhaps, too much of them.
The rest of other writing doesn't interest me much; she hopped acting from one movie to another, hit the box-offices, falled in love from one actor to another, so on and so forth.
the interesting part came later when she married the prince of monaco whom she barely knew and met only few times. A devastating monarchy marriage was much predictable, she turns lonely, and with rage, she "swim against the tide". she returned to her acting world, the monarchy was not pleased and the decision fall everything apart. (written inside someone asked, where's monaco anyway?)
She died in a car accident but her daughter survived. During the funeral, people were wondering if the prince was really sad.
somehow I cant relate the story to the onassis faminly, but later I read the Jacqueline Onassis book but didnt really like the contents and never finished the reading.
Diana-the last word by Simone Simmons
Book from the National library.The writer is one of Diana's trusted healer. In 1997 Diana told Simone -if anything happens to me write a book and tell it like it is. Probably, this is the best book to understand the real personality of the late, told by one of the best friend, the healer.
As a child, Diana suffered a family crisis when her mother left the family (for another man) and promised to return but never did until Diana married Prince Charles; nothing more than just to be the mother in law of the future king. After reading 3 of her books, each never fails to mention all blames be hers.
unlike Diana, the rest of other sibling 'survived' despite the parental break-up but soon not being too supportive during the crisis.(crisis defined as her break-out with prince charles) Her sister, sarah once dated Prince Charles; the distance is very much explainable. Charles, her little brother whom she once adore much, is the reason to her food disorder problem. The only supportive family member is her father, whom never remarried, raised all the children by himself and died in 1995; just when the crisis turned into full-blow.
The were chapters detailing the romance life with JFK, James hewitt, oliver ohare, hasnat khan and dodi. Hasnat Khan is the one she loves most, some others are just her bad-choices. Dodi is of course the "fatal-attraction".
Diana was in real, a funny and sometimes 'naughty-head". Read the following
Diana once made some funny remarks about Cherie, the wife of the Britain's Prime Minister wife. She said " she have disproportionate face and and strange mouth". she has somewhat mix feeling about her as the prime minister's wife; she was convinced that cherie wore the trousers in the marriage.
Diana once had 'cold-fights' with Marie christine, the princess of kent (prince micheal is the queen's cousin). diana dislike her from the moment they met but they live next door to each other in keningson palace. she remarked her as a waste of space. there once a chrismas card from the couple with a photo of the princess standing taller behind the prince. Then she commented - you can see who wears the trousers there. Marie has always dislike Diana and called her -that stupid girl next door.
One incident Marie set cat's traps in the Kennigston garden to keep stray cat catch the attention of her burmese pedigree cat. at night Diana usually sneak out from the bushes and set the trapped-cats free. In return, she placed a battery operated toy cat which miow-ed like a real one.
Other than that, it is too interesting that Prince Harry, her 2nd son has dylexia. He too had problem in reading, just like my nephew.
The crisis is the whole ingredients of the book. She loathed Camilla Parker, a married-women whom Charles having 'affair with'. (later I read a book about Camilla). Later towards the end, she always wished to be like fergie, her sister in law whom finally get a divorce and walked away as a "free woman". She knew as the mother of the future king, she would never such opportunity although besides being a mother, she resented her whole marriage-life greatly.
the divorced was finally official. There was sad moments when she had to put all her dresses on sale. Each dress accompanied memorable events; she was devastated to see each pieces went into different hands.
Later, there are some writing on Diana's charity works, the search of 'mean of life' and etc, before her tragic death. She truely a passionate researcher of her own wants.

It's been a while since I read the book and put the review on pending.I hope I got the title and the author right.
The first chapter of the book explains how the relationship between Diana and Dodi begins. Hasnat khan, a pakistani (if not mistaken, pls google) surgeon and the true love of Diana's has ended the relationship. With frustration Diana turned to Dodi.Unlike Diana, whom some called 'the Goddest', Dodi is a spoil son with hugh credit caard bills, womenizer and and financially dependant to his father. When he met Diana, he was engaged to I-cannot-remember-who, later simply ended the engagement and turned his attention to Diana.
The next section explained in great details of what happened during the night before the crash. It is interesting to learn that, Dodi had changed his plan to get away from the paparazzi; they took a decoy mercedes (previously had mechanical problems) at the back of the Ritz hotel(own by al-fayed) and changed their route.It is said that dodi was meeting someone over a business deal (dodi wants to impress his dad that he can do business) so they end up in alma tunnel, where a fiat uno waiting in front, in zig zag movement before the mercedes crashed. The fiat uno however, managed to escape with a minor side-mirror damage, which was fixed on the next day but later has never become the 'interest' when the official investigations was commenced. The fiat uno driver, James Anderson, a successful and high-profile paparazzi was found dead burned in his car in year 2000, He was said to have committed a suicide, but a bullet-hole found in his skull remains a mystery. A photo at the coverpage of the book, dispaying the Paul Henry(driver), trevor rees-jones(body-guard) and Diana (with head turned back, but Dodi's face was hidden) is said to be taken by James Anderson while zig-zaging in the tunnel before the crash. Another person accompanying James Anderson in the fiat uno remains a mystery.Ironically, no other evidences were available; all of the speed-cameras along the tunnel were 'malfunctioned' that night and 3-4 hours after the crashed, the tunnel was throughly sprayed with water and 'cleaned' all of the remaining evidences.

The french cult-order of the solar temple was said to have its common connection; among the members are Princes Charles, Diana and the late Grace Kelly, whom was killed in a similar car accident. It was said that a bug had been planted in the car that hazadous toxin was released (remotely controlled) and cause blurred vision and lost of motor controls. It was said during the time, Grace Kelly has intended to leave the Order and exposed the holy grail scam. Later, a similar theory was sought; a nerve agaent called VX was slipped with a pin into paul henry's shirt by his 'girl-friend', whom Henry 'met' before wheeling the decoy-mercedes.
some other has relate the landmines campaign by Diana to ban landmines as one of the theory. SOme beneficial individual seemed unhappy with the campaign and wanted Diana to be ceased. Later, more revealing fact turned interesting; Al-fayed was said to have involved in a high level of smuggling illegal weapons that later he too turned into 'silent'. After the accident, Dodi's mobile phone was no where to be found anywhere in the tunnel, later in the other book (I cant remember which one) Al Fayed has addmitted that the mobile was found but no details was ever mebtioned. It remains a mystery and many thought strong evidence may be sought from the mobile phone as Dodi has been said to have make several important calls before leaving Ritz Hotel.
There's so much interesting facts and events after the crash. as many of us know, trevor rees-jones bodyguard is still alive and 'untouched'. Investigations were carried out but received debatable comments. The high carbon monoxide and alcohol in Paul henry's blood revealed many more disputes by different level of French authorites. Interestingly, many high-profiles were killed in France in different 'accidental' events.
Overall, I guess it'll best to read on own.

After the accident, Dodi's mobile phone was no where to be found anywhere in the tunnel, later in the other book (I cant remember which one) Al Fayed has addmitted that the mobile was found but no details was ever mebtioned. It remains a mystery and many thought strong evidence may be sought from the mobile phone as Dodi has been said to have make several important calls before leaving Ritz Hotel.
There's so much interesting facts and events after the crash. as many of us know, trevor rees-jones bodyguard is still alive and 'untouched'. Investigations were carried out but received debatable comments. The high carbon monoxide and alcohol in Paul henry's blood revealed many more disputes by different level of French authorites. Interestingly, many high-profiles were killed in France in different 'accidental' events.
Overall, I guess it'll best to read on own.

Book from the National library.Found this book sits next to 'the falling leaves'on the shelf. Was in hurry, I grab both, make the necessary transaction and left. I am glad it is yet another interesting story that I finished reading it in one day.
I didnt have the time for the narration, but found few links as below. I love it when every time the author was stressful, she used to hide herself in a cupboard.

Book from the National library.
This is the sequence after the 'chinese cinderalla- the true story of an unwanted daughter". The early pages surround the scene of the will-reading (her father died) and the most awaitng moment for the writer ; not to know of how much money is she gettting but to finally know if her father loves her as the rest of other sibling. But the frustration is almost predictable; the step-mother keep the whole thing to her self, and the rest stoned without a say. The answer finally came, few pages before the book ends, when Niang (step-mother) died (and of course the writer is never in the her will) and the writer found the original copy of her father's will and finally secure the feel of belonging she always seek, although later learnt a painful act of bethrayel by her big sister, Lydia.
In between, it describes the life after she left Hong Kong, pursue her studies and career in Medicine. The writer also explains an eventful descriptions of the chinese revolution, the struggle of surviving and etc. It was sad however to know that her beloved auntie, Aunt Baba were among who lived in the state of despair.The saddest moment came at the end of the chapter, when the writer sat next to her and watch her passed away in peace; it was as tearful as in the previous 'Chinese Cinderalla', when both were parted as the writer was forced to stay at a distance-orphanage convent school.
the writer once had one unhappy marriage, she finally found her true love and now happily married, having one daughter. after successfully sold this book as one of the best writer, she retire from her career as a physician and devoted her time as a writer.

Book from the National library.I was looking for the smallest possible book, to be easily tucked into my handbag (for easy reading, anytime and anywhere) and found this one. I, however finished it in almost no time-every word pierced my heart and I cant help waiting too long to read the end.

Book from the National Library
This book walked me through the life journey of the late Princess Diana; from her rocky childhood until 1992, when her terrifying marriage life (to the Prince of Wales) was about to over. (note: divorced in 1996, killed in an accident with Dodi in 1997)
I'm glad a good friend offered me this book when knowing I am fan of biographies. Diana's birthday is 2 days away from mine, and this book revealed many of her 'cancer-rian" traits I managed to appreciate most; protective, tenacious, emotionally attuned and nurturing.
I appreciate a thought by one of her therapist, Stephen Twiggs who once told her "remember it's not so much that you are stuck with the royal family, rather they are stuck with you". I made my own "translation" and feel the therapeutical effect, so guess anyone too, can apply this theory to their own life.
I came across these, which I found quite interesting and hope to have time in the future to 'google' more- Hay diet, clairviyance, astrology, torot cards,metaphysics,healing by crystals (Diana's healing mechanism), mikhail ivanov and the prophet by khalil gibran (Diana's reading), a women of no importance (Charles's once take Diana to the show,perhaps a way to express himself..kah kah)
